Heraldry & Geneology As a specialised individual service we offer the opportunity to have your coat of arms or family crest hand carved in a timber of your choice. We will work from drawings of the Arms you wish to display, adhering faithfully to all the devices contained within, to produce a three dimensional representation, which may remain in natural polished wood, or painted in the colours outlined in your Grant of Arms, highlighted with gilded elements or, indeed, finished completely in traditional water gilt using 24 carat gold leaf, burnished to a bright mirror finish. Coats of Arms may be produced to any scale and in any wood, for interior or exterior display. We may represent the elements in low relief, high relief, or in sculptural form 'in the round.' Within the rules of heraldry, there remains the scope to bring a degree of artistic flourish to the design, and we offer a design service to complement our carving, producing detailed drawings and plans for your project. Please take the time to view more of our woodcarving website to see the high standards we achieve. The above picture is of the achievement of arms of the town of Saffron Walden, carved in oak, and 18" in height, it is one of five that we carved for display on the entrance doors to the town hall, and to a notice board inside. The roundel is intricately carved in oak following an Austrian design, and despite the fine level of detail, is only 110cm in diameter. |
